The driver seems to be working properly, and everything in the Device Manager is working properly. When I look in "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the control panel, there is nothing listed under "Volume". It used to work fine. What happened?

well i just switched from an AMD 64 3400 with a 2.0 processing speed to a AMD 4000 with a 2.4 processing speed. Works fine, everything good, except.. my processor keeps overheating. I know this because my fan will turn on very loud whenever i try playing games. I got a heat detecting program and it is a lot hotter than it should be. I also tried cleaning the fan and the metal cooling thing. I need to know what i should do to get it from overheating so much.

1. Does it slow down your system significantly? If so, by how much (%)?

2. Does it make it harder to retrieve data if something goes wrong (such as a drive crash)?

3. Can you compress a drive with data in it? Or does it only work for empty drives?

4. Please tell me if this will work:
I have two drives, C is where Windows is installed, E is an empty drive. I'm going to compress E drive, copy the entire C drive and then paste it into E drive. Then format the C drive, and compress it for future data storage. Now the computer has to boot up from the E drive, can the computer automatically boot from E drive or do I have to do something? I'm using XP.

Thanks.

Hi, I've had this computer for 5-6years. It was a shitty computer to begin with (Even when I first bought it) I didn't know anything about computers back then. It's so slow that, everytime I play computer games with my friends, they think I have SLOW INTERNET.(I have yahoo sbc) Anyways, I'm planning to purchase a new computer soon. My friend recommended me to www.alienware.com But I don't really want to spend 2000-5000dollars on a mere computer, nor am I a hardcore gamer(and they look ugly). I would go to Fry's, but unfortunately there is none in my neighborhood. What I want is basically, a GOOD computer. I would say for gaming purposes/entertainments. In a range from $900-$1200. And no, I don't want any customize-built computers. I want a computer with known brand, and something that A LOT of people bought this year 2007. Reason being, is because this is probably the last time my parents will buy me a computer. So I want to make sure, it's fast/large in space, and wont be obsolete ..

I was planning on building a new computer (since my 5 year old dell is dead). As I began to research on build a computer I realized that the process is too complicated and there is so much the learn. Am thinking about buying a refurbished PC, but not sure how to find a good one. I plan to use the computer for some office work, download music, surf the web (no game playing).

As with most PC's you buy off the shelf these days, I didn't get a Win XP CD with my Compaq Presario SR1503WM. Which has the Intel Celeron D. I also have a Radeon 9200 series graphics card. That's my setup. Here is the question...

I want to uninstall everything on the hardrive and start fresh like a new computer. How can I do this?
