I have this win98 computer that I'm going to reformat and restore back to when I first bought it, since I"m getting a bunch of windows explorer errors. Will I be able to d/l the last win98 patches, drivers, etc? Is this a difficult job? I've never had to do this before....thanks for your expertise.

PS i have backed up all my files and I believe I have all the recovery disks.

Your best bet would be to download the main drivers before you reinstall windows and save those drivers to a disk. By main drivers I mean Video drivers, Network drivers, modem drivers.

That way, once you reinstall windows, you have the required drivers to get online ready.

Reinstalling Win98 is not really difficult at all. Just follow the directions here: http://www.dansdata.com/sbs30.htm

if you have the recovery disks, then that will restore you to the factory default. by the way if you are asked to reformat, do so, but do not use the quick option take the full format. after you have formatted and reloaded, then you will want to go and find any of the important updates that microsoft put out for 98, apply those and then reload yours apps and your data.

pop the battery out of the mother board ,while the unit is unplugged push the start button,,put the battery back in, plug it back in , turn it on ,bingo factory default settings. the hard drive is a little harder.
