Cduleck is correct.

The AMD processors stopped focusing on actual processing speed and focused on ways to increase performance without raising CPU clock speeds. They do this by adding more Cache memory to the chip or increasing the density of the die. Then they give a number to indicate what the processor performs like.

A Sempron 3000+ would be as fast as a Intel Celeron clocked at 3.0 ghz, if not faster, even though it is only clocked at 1.8ghz.

The AMD processors are supposed to be equal to their comparison to the Intel Processor they are named for. A Sempron 64 processor 3000 is about equal to an Intel 3.0 Ghz processor.
At least that's the history of the names AMD used before, I had an Athlon XP 1700+ that ran 1.4Ghz.. but was supposed to be equal to a P4 1.7 Ghz.

A 3000+ processor does not mean a 3ghz processor. That is the series number.

Example:mine is a AMD 3700+ 2.2Ghz

You're mistaken, 3000+ does not mean 3Ghz. The speed of your processor is 1.8Ghz, always has been.

No he didn't lie - 3ghz is the equivalence rating to a Pentium chip (1.8hz is the actual speed)
here's an equivalence table

the probrties would tell you a LITTLE LESS than the real one
but not that far
open your cpu case and see the processor
most probablt you have been cheated
