since you are a gamer, you can probably figure out how to build a computer. the best/cheapest way to go is to but your components seperately. first buy a motherboard/cpu combo. they go for a couple hundred bucks. then you need to buy a case, a power supply, a video card (very important to get a good one. spend at least 300 on it), a sound card, a network adapter, a keyboard/mouse, RAM (get at least a gig) and a harddrive (get at least 100 gigs). then you plug everything together. it's pretty obvious how to assemble since there really is only one spot for each component. you can't mistakably attach the harddrive where the cpu is supposed to go. you just need to look at the plug and find where that plug goes. you don't get options really. there is only one place where your cpu can go. You will also need a heat sink and fans but those usually come with the motherboard/cpu combo pack as well as the IDE cables that connect your harddrive to your motherboard. you'll also need a CD drive.

I built a gamming computer for 1500. one way to save money is to get AMD dual core. just as good if not better for gamming over intel's version. I have read intel dual core has compatibiliy problems with some mother boards.

try www.newegg.com they have some good prices and everything you can imagine. if sound isnt all that important. then use the onboard sound card. the one on mine does great for me.

I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor . its $205 on newegg. I paied almost $300 only 3 months ago lol

ubt the system I built isnt top of the line but I get easy 100 FPS in BF2. so $1000 I cant see why not. its just a give and take just like anyone goes through when building a computer.

Sorry, but a decent gaming computer will run you more than $1,000. I spent $17 99 and mine is barely decent for gaming. Gaming PCs require lots of rapid graphics processing which also requires extra power & require all the other components to be able to display this rapidly changing graphics signal and I won't even go into the Surround Sound audio requirements. Save up some more money and get one designed just for you. Many places put PCs together customizing them to fit your exact requirements. Best of luck.

You can get a decent computer for under 1K but for it to be considered a gaming computer you have to build it for yourself.

Just to solidify what others are saying, if you want a Nvidea Geforce 8 series you are going to eat between 1/3-2/3 of your budget right there.

I have a great answer for you. i did this myself and it is amazing.
first i went to dell.com
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=DDDWAA4&s=dhs
this link will get you to the dimensions that is good for your needs. this already comes with 2gb of ram(great for gaming) and a 20" monitor(ver nice)
the only changes i would make would be to upgrade the processor for 1.86 to 2.13 ghz core 2 duo, and upgrade the video card to either the 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache or the 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro(my personal favorite) this should en up around 1000$, and is a great computer from a trustworthy company.

graphic card is the most important for game.
after that Ram.
if u want to have a good Pc for Game, you have to get a 2g Ram. (ddr is better)

Look in to building your own. You'll get more for your money. Alienware for 1000.00? Don't think so. http://www.alienware.com/product_pages/desktop_all_default.aspx sstrickyxyz must be clueless.
