Desktops - February 2007

We are getting a new computer this weekend and want to give our old one to the kids for games and stuff. We have a Compaq Presario but it has a bunch of stuff on it and we don't have any software that may have come with it (got it used.) Is there a way to wipe it clean and then reload the basic stuff like windows, explorer....

Right now it runs a bit slow and the kids complain that it makes game playing difficult. What can we do? Thanks!

I have a old A drive disk ,that has some files that i need off of it, But everytime i try to access it the comp tells me that it's not formatted. What can i do to get those files off of the a drive disk and onto a flash drive or CD

I had to install a new power supply on my Dell computer. Afterwards, now I have no sound. I tried buying a new sound card thinking that maybe I had fried the previous card with the malfunctioning power supply but since the new sound card doesn't work either, that can't be the reason. I've checked in the Control Panel and the device is working properly, has the correct digital signature, etc. I am using Windows XP. The sound is not muted. I just don't know what else to check.

ok so im getting this BSOD and it tiking me off i only get it when runnin on regular mode (im running safe mode right now)
ive tryied reinstalling the OS with no luck the BSOD still comes up will getting a new HD help any

Hi my processor is running 52 degrees celsius is this to hot its an amd athalon xp not sure what size but its running at 1.51 ghz with 11.5 multyplyer fbs at 100 is it getting to hot?

Then, small window appeared, it said, "You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission." I couldn't save it.

What should I do?

But I can't make the motherboard to boot from the CD-ROM... I tried many things, but I don't know what to do anymore.

Or do you know what to do?

I know what to do to make newer PCs boot from the CD-ROM, but this one computer, with this BIOS, I don't know...
I am used only to BIOS's like on the new Gigabyte motherboards for instance.

my custom bulit computer that i just had built in 2006 is acting up. it freezes up alot an i was told its my hard drive. im in the process of buying a new hard drive 2 put in .how can i take the data from this 1 an put in my new hard drive once i get it.an can u please give me step by step details.cause im afraid if i dont get step by step ill flub it rite up.i was gonna take it bac 2 where it was built butt its 2 far plus they got more then enuff of my money for this not 2 happen in the 1st place. any help u can give me on my problem would b gr8ly appreciated..

But the memmory stick is still lit up. does this matter? some computers the light is off and others it stays lit?I was always told when the light goes out to remove it ,but I find there a hand full of computers that when you click the safley remove mem stick it then says I can, But the light is still lit up.Whats going on why doesent it go off all the time

I have a computer of 124 mb of ram windows xp home edition compaq, i have no viruses or unwanted files, i have used disk defrag disk cleanup and the rest, but my computer is still unbelievably slow,it takes about 6 mins to load up, about 1 min 20 to load the internet, and the sound for the computer always jerks and jiggles, such as on windows media player, youtube and the entrance music for microsft. Also, my mouse moves slowly at times and sometime moves on its own! i have checked for conflicting hardware and i dont have any! please somebody help me! much appreciated.

My computer crashed a few months ago and upon inspection, the motherboard is finito. I use the computer for my Pro-Tools digital recording software. I found a matching motherboard on E-bay, however, I'm no computer wiz.

Is there a way I can transfer the hard drives from the crapped out computer to another hard drive using the existing connections?

Comparing the XPS series and the Inspiron series, isnt customizing a Inspiron with good specs better (cheaper) then just buying an XPS with decent specs?

I did the customized laptop feature, and with the 'fairly' same specs, the inspiron was much cheaper?
