ok i have a 3.2 ghz intel duo core, and is really fast when i built it, then today or yesterday my computer started to be really slow, im using it right now, i know is not the OS the OS is clean, and i know it is, this problem is different, i never had a problem like this but i just want to now what is the cause, i have a 300gb hard drive, maybe it could be the HD because im storing a lot of information and i hear weird noise, like when you turn your computer off, i hear it something similar when it starts running slow.
or maybe is the motherboard, but why! i bought it like 4 months ago it shouldn't have any problems, and i spent over 1000 $ for this computer.
i am so mad right now when i have a problem like this, i couldn't stand my old computer, it makes me so mad, thats why i decided to buy this one, but why is slow now.

You know the sound a computer makes when it's "thinking"? My computer constantly sounds like the processor is working on something even when it is just sitting there. I am not sure what it is. I noticed it about 4 months ago and hasn't stopped. I have a Pentium 4 processor with HT, 3.0 GHz, and 1024 mb DDR dual channel memory. If you think you need more info, let me know so I can post it. Thanks!

Im trying to move files from an internal HD to and external HD. It is taking 1 hour to move 3 gigs of data. How or what can i do to make it faster? Googling says that i should be able to achieve 1 gig/ min. I am nowhere close. Please help. Thank you in advance.
BTW i am just doing a copy (from source) and paste (to destination).
I have also tried a Backup program (that came w/ the external HD).
Everything is so slowwww compare to the average rate of transfer posted.

I ordered a Media XP edition ready pc from Dell. It is a Dimension e510. It was to be shipped with 160gb hard drive, 2gb memory, and the remote media package. Since then my phone bill is over $300.00 and my hours on this pc over 20 trying to get this thing to work right. Mother board replaced already too. I had to buy 2gb memory from Dell; and they call saying I am behind and I am being charged late fees. If you do buy a Dell, get the contract on paper first! They have only said that this what the invoice asked for! Not the phone call to them. I spoke with Mike--724476--. Getting the rebates took over 2 mnonths of phone and pc [library's] to straighten out. Never got the wireless mouse pkg either.
I baught this in March of 2006 and have No desire to do so again! If this had came equipped as specified, maybe it would work. Not the Britain bound unbit [base] that I got; minus the features I asked for!!

Just installed a new motherboard ASRock 775i65G with an intel Pentium D 3.4GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2x2 MB L2 Cache.

Disconected everything except
RAM, 2 x 1GB pc3200 DDR C8C3
Floppy drive
Hard drives internal 40GB and 60GB one with windows XP installed

Conected a USB keyboard and monitor to the motherboards built in VGA plug, but when i turn it on everything fires up and the power light comes on, the CPU and case fans are both running but the screen stays blank. The harddrive light comes on for about 30 seconds then goes out.

Only thing i'm not 100% sure of is the RAM but i've been told by several people that it's all compatible including the board manufacturer.
Can't hear any POST beeping as i've not got and internal speaker connected, all my previous pc's had them built into the motherboard.
Do i need to connect a CD drive and put in the windows CD or the disc that came with the motherboard.

can't think what else to do???
Any ideas or suggestions welcomed.

I have 2 hard drives, one of which is split in two. I have a 160 GB which is split into 40 + 120 (40 being my C:) and I have another drive that's 200 GB. When I format I only format my C: Partition, that way I keep all my important files. The problem is I formatted and it labeled my E: drive (200 GB) C: and vice-versa. So now my OS default drive is E:, which is annoying because everything installs on C: by default.

Jst installed a new motherboard and CPU but my old reset / on/off switch and harddisk drive front panel led plug is wrong.

The old switch is 8 pins in a row, empty, black, green(Power LED),blanked, black, Yellow(HDD LED), black, Red(power/reset switch). It was originally a HP pavilion PC.

The new Motherboard is a ASRock 775i65G and has 9pin (2 rows of 5) plug, PLED+, PLED-, PwrBtn#, blank, HDLED+, HDLED-, GND, RESET#, Dummy.

Does anyone know what sort of plug this is and where i can buy a new front panel switch/led display that will fit. Also is there a quick way to fire the pc up by shorting the PwrBtn# pin to GND just to turn the pc on. I know that the atx power supplies don't need the power button pressed in once the pc is on, they will only turn off if it is held on for 4 seconds. This means it's got to be a momentary on switch so shorting the terminals should work, i just need to be sure of the terminals.

Any help much appriciated, really want to get it working tonight

I always have to re-start and then windows wants to do a disc check, (so annoying) Can someone give me advice?

If I was to get a new computer soon, what should I get? Tiger? Vista? Or something else?

And if I was to get something in a year and a half time, what should I get? Is it too early to tell?

I am fairly experienced at computers, and have used Windows for my entire life. (My family had a Windows 2000, and a year and a half ago I got my own XP, which I still have to this day). Should I try iMac for once?

Also, I don't plan on changing soon, as the PC I have right now is excellent. However, I do know I'll have to change soon. And I'm interested.

There's also Linux...

Just wondering. Thanks in advance. =D

I am thinking about replacing my motherboard on my computer. I don't especially want to go through the process of backing up all the files I want to keep and then re-installing the OS and acquiring all of my programs yet again.
Is it always necessary to have a formatted HD and clean OS install when you replace your motherboard? Most likely replacing the processor as well.
