If I was to get a new computer soon, what should I get? Tiger? Vista? Or something else?

And if I was to get something in a year and a half time, what should I get? Is it too early to tell?

I am fairly experienced at computers, and have used Windows for my entire life. (My family had a Windows 2000, and a year and a half ago I got my own XP, which I still have to this day). Should I try iMac for once?

Also, I don't plan on changing soon, as the PC I have right now is excellent. However, I do know I'll have to change soon. And I'm interested.

There's also Linux...

Just wondering. Thanks in advance. =D

Macs are great machines, but Windows has advanced to the point where you can do everything with a PC that you can do with a Mac. The Mac fanatics will tell you that isn't true, but the majority of them haven't and won't touch a PC with a 10 ft pole, so they wouldn't know. I have used both quite extensively and while I think the new Macs are excellent machines, they don't have the versatility you get with a Windows machine. You can create the graphics, videos, etc. with a PC and you have all the ability for gaming that you don't have with a Mac. Yes PC's have more malicious code written for them, but the user has a lot of control over that too. I have crashed my Mac as many times as I have crashed my PC. Macs aren't the golden egg that Apple claims they have laid. Their commercials are so misleading and false they should be sued by Microsoft.

In the end the choice is yours. If you aren't a gamer, you might like a Mac. If you wait until the summer, you will have a brand new Mac OS to work with, OSX 10.5. (I can't remember what cat they are naming that one after right off) But for versatility, Mac can't, or chooses not to compete with Windows.

Depends on what you want to do.

Macs are great for graphic and video editing, and most anything else creative. However, there's not much in the way of games for Mac, and even the number of applications is far fewer than for Windows. But, you can install Windows XP on Intel-based Macs.

Windows, being the most widely used operating system, has much more available for it. Yes, it's prone to crash. Yes, everybody and their uncle has some sort of virus or spyware for Windows. However, most games and applications are made to work on Windows, much MUCH more hardware works with Windows. Also, you are not locked into any single brand for the computer itself (only Macs come with MacOS).

Vista is new, and anything new from Microsoft is going to have some major issues early on. I would hold off on Vista right now.

Well, the Mac is great decision if you're even a little curious about Mac OS X, because you can install Windows on the new Macs via several methods (and Linux too if you really wanted). If you honestly ended up giving OS X a decent chance (I'm talking like 3 months or so) and decided you didn't like it you could use just Windows on it.

Hi. Some folks like vanilla and some like strawberry. I plan on getting a Mac only so I can learn how they work. (I built my current PC, O/Cd it and use liquid cooling.)
