Normally the reason that a Pentium is better is because it has a much larger L2 Cache but a pentium that is old enough to run at 550 MHz has probably the same size L2 Cache as a Celeron new enough to run at 3.3Ghz. So I would have to say that in this case the Celeron is definatly better.

Well, obviously the Celeron is going to be significantly faster than the Pentium. The Pentium processor is going to be about 8-year old technology whereas the Celeron chip is state-of-the-art. (The Celeron D 355 and Celeron D 356 were just released last year.)

Your question is like asking which is better: a 1999 Honda Accord or a 2007 BMW Z4? :)

The 3.3GHz Celeron would be the obvious choice. Celerons are not idea for high end applications like video editing or high end games, but a 3.3GHz Celeron will be much faster than a 550MHz PIII. In fact, the PIII probably wouldn't even works with many of today's current applications. Now if you were comparing a Celeron with the same family of Pentium, then you would definitely go for the Pentium.

The 550Mhz is MUCH slower but probably more reliable,.. yet the 3.3Ghz is definately MUCH more powerful, it's probably less reliable, (not by much,.. the Celeron is an entry-level piece of kit, whereas the Pentium is higher quality),... So in fairness, the best thing might be to get, (if you're buying I assume),. the 3.3Ghz Celeron, depending if it's brand new or second-hand, if it's been looked after well or not etc etc.

3.3 celeron only because the computer slowing their doubling speed now, as predicted by the father of semiconductors at IBM.

But seriously, a combustion car can not be compared to a semiconductored laptop.

If I told you that if you had a choice of the Toyota FJ40, Unimog or the new Porche Turbo SUV, you probably think porche will perform better in marathon with the other contestant, you are very very wrong.

OMG...definately the 3.3ghz celeron!!
1024MHZ = 1GHZ..
And Pentium 3 is loads older , the FSB(filesystem bus) might be tiny while Celeron is definately bigger...and pentium 3 uses more electric power ...
