K a mem stick is a small device that you plug to your USB port for transporting information and files. They look like a key chain...When pluged in and being accesed there is a light that lights up.. When the light goes out you are suppose to be able to remove it safely But sometimes I shut it down and the light stays lit just the same and it says its safe to remove. A memorie stick can have as much a think as 2 gig if you want to pay that for them but think of it as replacing floppy and zip drives they are good cause you can get a gig into it and bring what ever ya have on it anywhere

sometimes, it lits up doesn't mean it's reading or anything, it could be telling you that it has power, and it's in good working condition, if the light is flashing, it's definately is writing and reading (accessing) the memory stick, and which is never trying to remove it while it's accesssing it.

As long as you perform the necessary steps on the pc to remove the stick, then you can remove even if that light is lit.

Perhaps I don't understand this question totally, but anytime I have to remove any hardware that is inside my computer it gets shut off. It almost sounds like yours is attached outside? (I have never heard of that but it wouldn't be the first time) If so and you are not comfortable removing it with the light on, shut your PC down then remove it.
