Your question is not one that can be answered without personal preference. So, if the statement doesn't start with IMHO... then they are biased to one type of chip.

So....

IMHO, I prefer AMD for several reasons. First, most lower speed AMD's tend to out perform the faster Intel. AMD's chip structure allows for better parallel processing. Though AMD tends to run hot. Most of my fellow IT Professionals prefer AMD over Intel.

Intel chips tend to be more expensive than AMD, and they usually score low for power gamers. Only recently has an Intel chip out performed an AMD chip, and only because it was a duel-processor chip where AMD didn't have one on market yet.

Intel is in bed with MS. Which means that MS tends to gear the OS for Intel based chips. Though, in recent months, MS is not as pro-Intel.

Intel got slapped for unfair marketing practices forcing Dell, Gateway and HP/Compaq not to use AMD chips for years. It is only recently that Dell started to build PC's with AMD. And, to keep AMD (and the defunct Cyrix), Intel had the Motherboard architecture changed back in the late 1990s so that AMD and Cyrix chips couldn't be used on the same motherboards.

Intel Chips seem to be more vulnerable to malware.

But, if you really want to know which chip is better for you, you may need to get two PC's with the same hardware/software, but one with a Intel-based Motherboard and CPU and the other with the AMD-based Motherboard and CPU. Or, to save money, go to a website that test the chips side-by-side using benchmarks; such as http://www.pcworld.com or http://www.cnet.com .

Depends on what you want to do with your pc. I have always used AMD processors.

intel core 2 duo kicks amd's X2's ***. I had like 5 friends all got amd X2 4200 processors and myself and another of my friend got a core 2 duo E6300 1.8 GHz. so far ours runs faster, and one of my friends amd processors already broke down. from wat i hear amd isnt as reliable as intel. get amd for the smarter choice!

well with intel just coming out with conroe, you can probably get more bang for your buck by getting an intel core2duo processor.
