Just finished building it, and so i was trying to configure the BIOS, but it keeps on shutting down. I thought it might be overheating, so i took off the stock fan (i have a core 2 duo), replaced the heat paste, reseated the fan, and tried running it again, but it keeps on happening. What could be the problem?

Best buy suggested cleaning any dust blocking the fan and adding some adding some silver compound to cool, but that didn't work. We don't want to buy a new processor and motherboard if we don't have to, but we are having a hard time thinking about what else might be causing the overheating. We have 2 fans and it pulled out with pleanty of air flow. The only way he can keep it on is to turn off the security feature that cuts it off when the temp is too high! He is a computer programmer and built this computer himself 5 years ago which is still more powerful than most sold today, so I really want to help him figure out what the problem is! I appreciate any and all suggestions!

I bought my HP almost EIGHT years ago and I have never had one problem with it. But recently I have heard bad things about HP's . I'm only looking for a new computer because this one doesnt have all the new upgrades I need and it only has two usb hubs. Any suggestions on what brand I should buy. I only use my computer to bank, shop, email, upload pictures from my camera, and iTunes.

I have a Compaq Presario 5000, I found a hard drive, and pluged it in. this hard drive was more recent and the whole system went very slow. I decided to use the Quick Restore With the new hard drive and the origianal hard drive connected. I took the new one from a broken computer w/ a malfuntioning power supply.

When I used the Quick restore, the computer still went unnaturaly slow. So, When i said to put in the second disk, I just shut the whole thing down, and undid the new hard drive.

After this, everything has gone wring, I think I've tried every combonation of plugong in one hard drive, ect. I also used the floppy Emergengy disk and states that is an error. I belive that I erased the sytem, or what ever it is, on the origonal Hard Drive

I retryed the CD restore, nothing works

PLEESE HELP!

I am building a computer. I need to buy the components. I want to build around an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor, 1GB dual channel memory and 160GB of hard drive. I plan on using Windows XP or possibly upgrade to Vista Premium. What brand of hardware components will work best with this set up, but will also be cost effective?

My desktop is almost 4 years old and I'm thinking of changing the motherboard and CPU.

By searching the Internet I found a lot of microATX mobos and fewer standard ATX.

Will I have a problem if I'll try to replace a standard ATX motherboard with a new microATX mobo? (I mean just in the matter of size and space of the internal of my desktop box)

Has anyone did that kind of change?

Motherboards:
* standard ATX size is 12"×9.6" maximum (305 mm × 244 mm)
* microATX maximum size is 9.6"×9.6" (244mm×244 mm)

The E521's processor is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor (5600+)and the 9200's is a Intel Core 2 duo(its only a duo, not even quad or extreme) (e6400+).
They are both have identical specs after processor.
I want to know what computer you would prefer and i would appreciate it if ye didnt talk **** about self building, i am buying off DELL not self buildin.

I'm looking for a new harddrive but i've got a few unknows i need some help with !!!

What is the fastest harddrive to go for?

Is it worth me upgrading from the IDE connection at all! Will i see a noticable improvement (i use the PC for Digital Movie editing and gaming manily)

SATA2 is the fastest conection at 300Mbit/s but my MB only supports 150Mbit/s SATA1, if i go for the latest drives with SATA2 (so that if i upgrade my MB later it can utilise this higher speed) will it still work with the SATA1 on my current MB?

Will going for a higher rpm (over 7200) make much difference?

How important is the Cache size for overall speed of the harddrive?

Should i only stick with a well known brand e.g. Western Digital?

Thanks

Hello,
I have never really used a Mac before, but I thought it would be interesting to give it a try. I bought a Powermac G4 that runs Mac OS X Tiger used from somebody. It has a 20 GB hard drive, but when I took it home, 18 GB were in use! After searching for what took up so much space, I found the Printers folder which had 8GB of stuff in it! I deleted some of the printers, since I don't plan to print with this computer anyway. The folder now has 950 MB in it, but the Hard drive only had 1 GB freed, even after emptying the trash. If the folder had 7 GB removed, how come only 1 GB was removed from the disc? What other things should I do to clear up space or do to check to see what is taking up so much space? Thanks!
