I would say yea that is a good deal in that you are getting a bigger hard drive and a faster processer and if the one that you are considering buying has vista basic home on it i would say that you are a bit ahead of the game in that you dont' have to buy vista

I know i am thinking about upgrading my pc to vista when i can afford to but right now i have xp home on it so that's good enough for me until i can afford to take the step up to vista

But does the computer come with the mouse and keyboard or is that just for the tower. Either way keyboards and mice are inexpensive So i would say ya it's a good deal and emachines despite what some might say are a good computer

My boyfreind has one And my mom had one too and man they are nice little deals

I think so anyway

No, it is not a good system for the money. Vista Home is a total waste as all you get is the improved security and the Vista name, no other functionality is built in. You want at least 1 GB or memory, a DVD-ROM drive and Vista Home Premium at a minimum. A larger hard drive and a dual core processor would work wonders for you performance, not to mention a higher end graphics card then what comes with that emachines box. The emachines more then likely comes with integrated graphics, Vista prefers discrete graphics much better. Without discrete graphics the Aero interface (which Home Basic does not support) will not even install.

I wouldn't buy anything with Vista pre-installed on it just yet untill all the bugs have been worked out of that OS. If you haven't used XP either then I suggest you familiarize yourself with it before taking on Vista which will be even more foreign to you. This is a decent deal, however, you get what you pay for. E-machines is now owned by HP which owns Compaq so this is the quality of PC you are buying. You will have tons of useless software clogging it up too, but if you want an inexpensive PC I would go for it and get yourself an extra 512mb of ram to keep everything more stable. Good Luck!

Check out Best Buy or someplace like that. Most of theirs have vista home premium (requires better hardware than basic), and probably cost about the same.

That price sounds kind of high for an entry-level PC anyway, with only a 17" monitor and 512MB. Go for at least 19" monitor and 1 GB memory and vista premium, you'll be glad you did down the road.

DON'T YOU BELIEVE IT. Sure John Public may think Emachines are great and may even say something stupid like its awesome and I never had a problem with it. BUTTTT take it from a guy that fixes them for a living. They are extreme garbage. And the though of trusting them with a new somewhat experimental Operating System makes me shutter at the questions and problems my customers will be experiencing. Simply put, emachine uses the extreme cheapest parts on every inch of their computers in order to be able to meet Walmart Dictator type price demands. The results is a bulk rate computer with hardware that barely supports its own software never mind a third party. Cheap power supplies, Pathetic cooling fans. warping memmory sticks, You truly get what you pay for when you buy one. Actually you don't even get that. I tossed more of them in the trash than I fixed.

I had an emachine years ago and honestly had no problems with it. It all depends on how computer literate you are too. If you are just using it to play solitaire and surf the net, it is a fine machine.

If you want to be able to play PC games, you will want a better system. That price is kinda high for the memory you are getting. Try checking out www.dell.com and www.newegg.com for some nice deals on computers that are good for the everyday person.

I had an Emachine I used for 7 years, I started upgrading after about 2 years. It's not a BAD deal, and also not a bad computer.

Hi!
It is not a bad deal at all..however..I would worry about VIsta at this stage of the game. I would not consider it unless they promised me XP to install just in case.

I might consider it in a few more months..once Microsoft decides to actually fix many of the problems that are bound to come with a new OS from them.

Don't get an emachine...they are made from very cheap parts that will go bad very quickly, mostly the motherboard and power supply.
