When the OS gets corrupted/bad
Can I re-install the OS in partition #1 (C:)
without erasing/affecting the Data in partition #2

Yes... no problem. If you HD is large enough consider purchasing Acronis True Image and save and image of your hard drive once you get all your apps installed. It will create a backup image of your OS partition so if you want to reinstall you won't have to get our a bunch of CD's just the back/up restore program.

Yes you can. Just create two partitions when installing Windows.

yes, thats the way to do it, put all your saved files and anything else you want to save into the second partition, you may even want to format it as FAT32 so it can be accessed by other O/S as well, that way if you ever have a really ahrd crash you may be able to extract the files with another operating system or live distro

Yes you can easily accomplish this but to create both partitions first you have to format the hard drive and when reinstalling windows divide the hard drive in the sizes you want. ex: C: 20GB and D:(Data) 80GB. BTW, to input 20GB you actually have to put 20000 and 80000 for 80GB, add three zeros to the actual number you want.
