BEST WAY is to use one of the software that are found on Hirens Boot CD: that baby fills the hard drive with "0" values then wipes it. So nothing can bring back the old information.

You can also use TuneUP Utilities: it has an option called "shredder". you can also choose multiple wipes. that should do it

You can reformat it with several different programs but to get absolutely everything off of it ....the truth is their is no way to do it...I've seen the state police pull stuff off drives that have been reduced to zero's many times...but I've heard that if you use a power full magnet it will scramble things so bad that there's no way to retrieve it...never tried it...

Download DBAN to do it:
http://dban.sourceforge.net/
Note: If you sell your PC, and you have an OS tag on it with the activation code, you will probably want to either remove the tag (if you don't want to sell the OS), or give the OS CD"s to the new owner.

The safest thing is to remove the hard drive as this has info on it which can be read - no cleaner will clean it of all info.

Be safe.
