INFO: My old computer has ONLY a floppy; my new computer will have no floppy, but a CD drive.

What's the fastest/affordable way to get files from the old to the new?

Thanks.

Oh, it's Win 98 to Vista and I'm talking regular personal files (documents & pictures) nothing out of the ordinary. I thought of emailing everything and then resaving, but that's ALOT ALOT of work!!

You can backup certain files, you also can find on the internet places for data mining, they hold files online for corporate situations, then when you get hooked up to the net just transfer them to you new computer.

Or if you have a friend who has a exteranl CD drive or a external HDD, they run less tahn $100 and would allow you to hook up to your current USB plug and transfer them to the unit, then just use it as a secondary HDD or if on a CD-Rom load them on your new computer, but first if you have a security software program, run a check, best not to load viruses on your new computer.

I am a MCSE and A+ tech, and have both devices for helping my clients, and I do system upgrades, updates and full changes. Here is an idea, from TigerDirect for $65.00 and portable harddrive.

Are you talking XP to XP or XP To Vista??????????? IF it's xp to vista then you will only be able to save certain personal files, and music, pics..... The easiest way is to get a data transfer cable, I have bought them off of Ebay for a dollar or two ( make sure they are brand new ) and you can do it from USB to USB ports, or have a tech savvy friend install the Old Hard Drive as a Slaved Drive and copy that way. Good Luck

it is possiable to connect them useing a cross over, much like a telephone cable, but as said think i would opt for a small external hard drive, and just copy everything you want into folders just like my documents, then hook it up to the new pc, when windows sees it, open and copy whatever or move.
