What precautions should I take so that it doesn't cause problems? I would assume ample circulation in the back of the computer (which I think it will). The right side of the processor will sit against the desk under it and there is about a foot (12 inches) of clearence from the back of the computer to the wall.

Which processor would be faster for my system? I have read that Core 2 Duo is generally faster then Pentium D but I would like to know if that is true in this specific case. If I were to spend the same amount of money, I would either get the Core 2 Duo processor with 1 GB of RAM or the Pentium D processor with 2GB of RAM. Which would be better? Please help me decide. Thanks.

I am in the middle of the country and can not get DSL. So I bought the new Cingular G3 wireless card. I have a laptop but would love to run the wireless card off my new desktop and then set up wireless in my house so I can run numerous computers. Use the Desktop as my hub. I travel alot and if I take the wireless with me my wife will not be able to connect to the internet. Help is there an adaptor that I can buy to plug it into my desktop?

I have thousands of dollars of pro audio applications that run on Pentium 4 1.7ghz, but need more juice. If I upgraded to a Core 2 Duo (6400 I'm thinking), should I worry about compatability issues or is this simply a jump in speed and nothing more to stress about?
Plus, all my old games... I'll still want to play Diablo 2 until the cows come home if possible. :)

I got a new pc today and am currently downloading every single download available(so it seems java, adobe etc). When I scroll down a page it seems to be a bit juddery as though the PC cant process the speed fast enough. Its a Pentium Duo Core 6400 I think with 1GIG of ram, so should be more than addequote enough to run IE. I also downloaded Mozilla Firefox but am having the same problems with scrolling down the page with this.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm just wondering this because there is wires all over the place behind my computer desk and they look really ugly, so I was wondering if the computer needs to be plugged in all the time? I'm thinking of unplugging the plugs and taking them off or tieing them back so they cannot be seen. So does it need to be plugged in?

Hello, ive been a hardcore gamer since the intellivision hehe but anyway...
currently i have an e-machines T2899
http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Desktop-with-AMD-AthlonT-XP-Processor-2800-T2899~r-1~CLT-INTR~RFR-www.google.com

The link has all the info.

So yea obviously its not a gaming computer which the bastard in best buy said it was so yea i know i got ripped off. What im looking to buy is maybe a 1gb RAM card along with a nice PCI Express card. The only problem is that this model only has an AGP slot and the old school PCI slots. So ive done a bit of researching and found that i could buy a motherboard with PCI express capabilities (hopefully something that can handle a Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT).

So my question would be, can i buy any motherboard that has PCI express to replace the current one i have now? or is thier only certain models that i could use with this emachines?

Any recommendations on what i should get to get the best performance is also a big thanks! (new processor etc)
