I got a new pc today and am currently downloading every single download available(so it seems java, adobe etc). When I scroll down a page it seems to be a bit juddery as though the PC cant process the speed fast enough. Its a Pentium Duo Core 6400 I think with 1GIG of ram, so should be more than addequote enough to run IE. I also downloaded Mozilla Firefox but am having the same problems with scrolling down the page with this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Chances are that you have a bad video driver. sometimes on occasion microsoft will have you download a driver from the microsoft updates that they believe is a compatible version with your video card however the video card manufacturers have made this an easy task to overcome by providing drivers from the manufacturers website.

I think your problem has to do with RAM. Check your system properties to make sure it is recording the 1gig of RAM. Then I would try to find updated drivers for them. Try switching out the RAM with some from your old computer...or a computer that you know works. If it still does it I'd say there's some system conflict with your network card. Try updating the drivers for that. If it still doesn't work try reformatting your computer and start with the bare basics to see if it's some conflict with some software. Also, try doing a virus scan...if you got online without virus software it could be a virus. Hope all goes ok.

Well it sounds like you have a nice computer, however why are you downloading everything you see ?, for don't you know that everytime you download something your new computer has to process all that information and it can take a lot of CPU power and ram to do this, hence slowing the performance of the computer down to what seems like a trickle. if you want my advice only download the software you actually need, and not just because it's there and free.

Try updating your video drivers. Also, run down your display settings in the Performance tab under System in your Control Panel.

Lastly, see if you have any programs or processes running that are chewing up your CPU or RAM.

Best I can think of.

ok you need to change the ram setup in the virtual paging file size options in your computer, you may have 1024mb (1gb) ram installed in your system but your computer is automaticly setup to allocate ram according to what it thinks it needs at the time and a system managed ram size is always small by default options....ok.... to do this follow these steps exactly........ goto start menu....click on control panel....click preformance and maintenance....click on the system icon....click the advanced tab at top of menu....click performance settings....click on advanced....click the virtual memory button....click the change button.............ok now change it from system managed paging file size to custom setting....put in the minimum box the value u want ...1024mb aka (1gb)....now in maximum page size put anything u want (but dont put too much.... try around 1988-2030mb but DONT go over 2048mb (2gb) or ull caulse problems again with your ram card, ideally u shud have 1024mb minimum and 1512mb maximum (1.5gb) so u dont over work the ram card....click the SET button so u see the new size appear in the txt box above....click ok and reboot your system ....tadaaaa fast as hell agen lol :) if u still get problems try lowering the maximum page size field to say 1500-1700mb.keep doing this until your happy with the speed, this is a common fault having a system managed virtual memory as it will only allocate about 488-633mb to ram so u need to tell it u want 1024mb aka (1gb) of ram . if u go over the 2048mb mark ur ram card wont handle it too well and the computer will lag like hell on the net.hope that helps u

It could be your graphics card drivers are not installed look into device manager and see what graphics card you have then get the lastest drivers from the specific model or it could be that you have not got service pack 2 installed download it from here:

if none of the other answers work, right click on a blank part of your screen.on th drop down menu, scroll down to properties.in the window that opens left click on "ADVANCED"
you should then see another window with a few buttons at the top.. if you do click on "MONITOR" make sure "HIDE MODES THAT THIS MONITOR CANNOT DISPLAY" is ticked (so as not to damage your monitor with to high a setting). so if its on 60 set it to 72 or 75 if available. hope this helps.
