Have you had this computer long? Did it make a sound when you bought it?
you haven't given us any details of what kind of computer it is.
If you're not experienced with computers and their faults, bite the bullet and take it to an IT person. Maybe your local computer store has a engineer. Ask if they can give you an estimate first.
From the list below, you can see that this problem could be any one of a number of things.
- Sound card fault
- sound card drivers fault
- speaker fault
- IRQ clash between the sound card and another device
- motherboard jumper setting incorrect (bypasses internal sound circuits)
- speakers plugged into wrong socket on the motherboard or sound card (should be the green socket or the socket with SPKR or -)-)-)-> kind of symbol or OUTPUT
- recent software update or installation that clashes with your sound card
- control panel setting incorrect
- volume muted, does the loudspeaker have a red X in one corner or is it covered by a red circle with a red slash through it?
Are your speakers powered? Do they run off batteries or the electricity? Computers cannot generate enough current at the SPKR socket to drive speakers.

Check your speakers are plugged into the right socket. Have you moved PC and problem occurred since then? If your running XP run the help sound file. You could also try re-installing windows, or system restore to a point where your speakers were working. Oh and also check the mute sound button is not ticked regards..

1)Find the sound icon on the taskbar (bottom right) and left click, untick the 'mute' box.
2) Right click and check the settings on the dialogue box.
3) Try plugging the speakers into a walkman to check they work, then check they are plugged in correctly on your pc.
4) Go to Start - Control Panel - Sounds and Audio and run through the troubleshooters there.

Whatever the reason may be for the sound not to come you will need an IT technician for the best job for your PC. It is just like a Doctor for your illnesses and a dentist for your tooth

If you have re-installed or just installed the operating system then you probably haven't installed the sound card drivers/ motherboard drivers if it has biuld in sound. If you havn't done that then just retore the system to when the sound worked you have probably changed a setting somewhere.
hope that helps!

see if you have a volume control icon in your system tray in the bottom right. If so, right click it and open up the volume controls and make sure it is turned up. Good luck. Mikie.
