Can anyone help? I tried to change my hard drive from my old PIII to a newer P4. It can't boot. Like wise the the P4's hard drive won't boot in the P3 system. Is there way I can exchange both drives? Thanks.

You usually can't just take one drive out and put it into another computer. This MIGHT work if the two computers are very similar, but if you are going from a P4 to a P3 - no chance. You should save your important files to a USB drive and then wipe the drive and reinstall all you software when the drive is in the new computer.

First, make sure the hard drives are properly detected & configured in each respective PC's BIOS.

Second they may then boot the PC, however, if yoy left all the old data & operating systems on the hard drives they may not work with in the new PCs.

Reason for this is that all the drivers & other hardware configurations no longer make sense to them. Also, some OEM operating systems like XP will not allow you to simply transfer the OS to a not licensed computer.

Solution : if your goal is simply to tranfer the physical hard drives & not the OS or data then just reformat each one & reinstall the operating systems on both PCs ... BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST !

Your hard drive is configured for one specific set of drivers along with hardware information and data from the operating system. It would be almost impossible to transfer a hard drive from 1 system to another unless they were identical

When you change a hard drive you may have to install the software.I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

If you're using Windows XP, perform a REPAIR INSTALL.

This will reinstall Windows to accomodate the new hardware, but preserve the vast majority of your application settings and won't require a reformat.

you are not able to boot from your older hard drive because of hardware changes and operation system need to reconfigure itself
. to do so you need to re-install the operation system.
