My Asrock (sis chipset) motherboard died the other day, and when I went to buy a new one at the computer store, the guy told me that the only way to replace my motherboard without having to reinstall windows is if I buy another motherboard based on the sis chipset. Well he sold me a MSI K8MM3 , but when I get it home, all the documentation says that it is a via chipset.

I do not want to have to reinstall windows. So should I return this motherboard and find a sis one (seemed hard to find), or will I be fine installing it?

I wanted to take a backup of my data so that I can switch to genuine windows XP but during the process, the computer shows some message about low disk space and the backup terminates. But I had given the address of the backup to a drive with space more than double the space occupied by all the data in my computer combined.Does that mean that it is unsafe to switch my O.S?

My uncle bought this computer for around $2000 in 1998, 8.5 years ago. I just bought a top of the line computer, and I saw a huge difference. This computer has a 1.6 Ghz Pentium 4 Processor, 512 MB RAM DDR, 80 GB Hard Drive, 4 USB ports, one 1394 port (firewire port), 17" CRT monitor (analog connector port, has no digital port), DVD drive and CD-RW drive, low-end Video and Sound Cards (nice speakers, though), lots of Sony software for Movies, Music, and Pictures, Microsoft XP Home, and Microsoft Office 2003 Standard Edition (only software that I added after I restored the computer). Please give me an estimate of how much this computer is worth from your experience without any bad comment. Thanks.

i have a compaq presario desktop. when i use it it worked fine for like about 2 hrs but then it just froze on me. then i tried rebooting it, but it took like 20 times bfore it actually turned on again. the cpu turned on but the monitor didnt, the green light turned on for about 2 seconds then it would change to orange. i bought a new hard drive. bcause for some reason i thought that would mayb have somethin to do with it but i thought wrong. it kept doin it. then i took it to a repair shop. they told me that the cpu has to be in a well "ventiladed area" since the computer was made to run on win. me. but i had upgraded it to win. xp..so that the cpu. only ran on 800mhz..and it really couldnt keep up with XP. i tried it but...it worked well for about a week.. then it froze on me again..the same problem again..DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT MIGHT BE THE REAL PROBLEM WITH MY COMPUTER??should i just sell it??how much would someone be willing 2 pay 4 a compaq presario with 100 gig hd.512 ram.DVD/CDRW

I have AMD Athlon , 1.5 GHz, 512 MB of RAM. It is very noisy. It sounds like a vaccuum cleaner. If i have it running for 3 hours the desktop gets too hot. When I opened it up I saw that the noise was coming from the Microprocessor. Is it worth buying a new processor?

What are the signs that your processor is going bad in your computer? I have an E-machine that is almost 4 years old. Intel Celeron 1300 MHz 1.30 GHs. Recently it takes up to 30 minutes to reboot and takes longer to load programs, and if a program takes awhile, it shuts down on its own.

This is what happened:
I was on my computer (on the internet) and my computer froze on me. I tried pressing control, alt, delete to end the program, but that did not work, so I manually shut down my computer by pressing the button. I waited 30secs. and restarted it. The computer said that there was an error and windows needed to repair because of the manual shutdown. Instead of going to the home screen, it gave me the options of safe mode, return to windows...along with a few others. I tried all of them, and none of them worked, because it kept bringing me back to the screen of safe mode...windows mode...etc.
This has never happened before, and I was wondering if someone can help me fix this problem. I own a HP computer w/ tower (NOT a LAPTOP), and it is no longer under warranty.

I am working on building a computer for gaming, and I am trying to decide what type of motherboard I should get. I have narrowed it down to "ASUS P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX Intel Motherboard" and "ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI ATX Intel Motherboard". I am looking for a motherboard that will be able to support a GeForce 7950, so I was wondering which would be better. Thanks for your help!
