Try clearing the BIOS..and if that does not work try Reseating the Cable for that drive and you could also try swapping the order in which the drives are connected to the cable...if they are SATA drives..try a different sata port...
If both drives recognize DVDs try a blank Cd it should work if that does not..go into the Registry and try deleting the Upper filters and the lower filters for the drives...you could try upgrading the firm ware from the websites of the Manufacturer of these drives..
the best way to locate the upper ans the lower filters is to go to the registry and use the search feature..type "upperfilter"..and "Lowerfilter"..and delete the keys from the hive..it will resolve the problem if not..right clock on each drive and under properties disable DLA...

Some DVD drives only recognize DVD's. One is probably a burner and the other a rom.

Right tic on "My Computer" and select "Manage". Tic on "Device Manager" in the left pane. Tic the "plus" sign next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives in the right pane. Right tic on the optical drives and uninstall them both, then reboot (restart) the computer. This reloads the drivers for your optical drives, which may have become corrupt.

try removing the drivers for both of them.. then install drivers for each one by itself! that will make u disconnect one from the "case" and install the driver for the other one.. then put it back to the case and install the driver for it!
