Computers only last for 5 years. Is this true?

Computer's will run MUCH longer than 5 years.
I'm sure what you heard was that they become almost completely obsolete after 5 years.
I have a computer that's been running as a server for almost 7 years, but since that's all it does it works fine.
Now, if I wanted to play the latest game on it, I'd be kidding myself!

That's not true. We have a 15 year old computer that works fine.

More accurately they become technologically obsolete in 3-5 years But the system itself can last for many many years

no... I've got a 10 year old Mac in the basement that I tinker with... it works fine... usually components go bad in a computer by then, like having to replace a hard drive ect... if its 5 years old its obsolete/ much slower than newer computers...

I have had servers last more than 10 years and then I have had desktops last less than 1 it just depends.

I use mine a LOT, an awful lot, and mine only last 3 years at most. Doesn't matter what brand... I always get another brand and hope that it will last longer, but, not.

Absolutely not. Computers have varied life cycles based on amount of use, quality of care, and quality of the original part manufacturing.

Sometimes they can last longer if you can take good care of it.
