what file? write the exact name down.
Can you boot to 'last known good configuration'?
If not, and if possible, start in safe mode
go to Start>Run
type in
sfc /scannow
it will ask for the XP CD, but should repair missing or corrupted files.
if it won't start at all, put in your XP CD & boot from it.
During the install, it wall say, we have found an existing installation, what do you want to do.
Tell it to REPAIR.
If all you have is a restore CD, oops, you may need to use it.
The problem is, the restore CD erases everything from your disk & reinstalls everything to the way it was the very first time you turned it on.
