You can replace you hard drive with a new larger hard drive or simply add in a second hard drive. The best way is to replace your drive with a new one. The contents of the old drive can be copied to the new drive, however it can be complicated to do this if you are unfamiliar with copying hard drives, so you may want to take it to a professional. To copy the drive you would need a program like Norton Ghost or Partition Magic.

Most of that is data.
1. Burn the data unto CD or DVD and then delete them from the hard drive, especially if they are music, video, and picture files. Those take up a lot of space.
2. Run disc cleanup to get rid of junk files.
3. Compress other files.
4. You can, of course, add a second hard drive, and save data on it. Remove the current drive, ensure that the jumper is set to master, and put it in back. For the second drive, set the jumper to slave, and add it to the system(on the same cable/controller as the master, if possible OR on the other data cable).
You will still be able to use all the programs on the master. To make the slave usable, Start||Control Panel||Administrative Tools||Computer Management|| Storage||Disk Management||Right-click on the new drive, partition and format.

You can install a second hard drive (pretty technical), or install another hard drive that is larger and transfer everything over (still pretty technical). My best advice: go to start >> all programs >> accessories >> system tools >> disk cleanup. It wouldn't be a bad idea to defragment your hard drive while you are at it. Go to add/remove programs in the control panel and delete any programs you recognize that you don't want; don't delete something if you don't know what it is.

Disc drives don't have memory (except for a cache maybe). What they have is called storage.
Add a second drive. I have made the best experience with Western Digital drives. Best prices can be found at: http://www.pricewatch.com
