I'm just wondering this because there is wires all over the place behind my computer desk and they look really ugly, so I was wondering if the computer needs to be plugged in all the time? I'm thinking of unplugging the plugs and taking them off or tieing them back so they cannot be seen. So does it need to be plugged in?

When your trying to use it, yes, it does need to be plugged in.

Otherwise, unplugging your computer is actually a good idea. It will help prevent it from power surges, and will save you some $$$, since all computers use a bit of power when they're plugged in, even if they're not on.

You might also consider trying all the wires back without unplugging it. That's probably the best option.

You're thinking of taking the plugs off! Yes it has to be plugged in.
There is a bios battery in it for things like outages, but plugging and unplugging , besides being a nuissance for you, is not recommended. There are wire organizers that will help you wire situation. You can get those almost anywhere they sell PC's

If the wires are behind your computer desk where you can't see them anyway, why do you care if they are ugly? If it really bothers you that much, you can get wire ties and wire channels to hide it.

You can shut the computer off and then unplug the cords if you wish. However, you will not be able to use it.
