My boyfriend just bought me a new desktop from Dell for x-mas. It's been running perfect for a couple of days now but tonight when I went to turn it on, it turned on and came to the Dell screen just fine but it did not load to the log on screen (the blue XP screen). The screen was lit up but blank black. I turned it off and restarted it and it loaded just fine. If anyone knows why it would do that or anything else, please let me know!

I know it's almost Christmas and you may be too busy to comment but any help would be greatly appreciated! I'm having issues adding RAM to my desktop computer (Dell OptiPlex GX110) and I use a Windows XP Platform. I have checked numerous help websites including crucial.com and howitworks.com but to no avail.
My problem is: I inserted the memory (256MB card) into the slot in my computer beside the old memory...no problem. Then I turned my computer on and went into Setup-->BIOS. In blue writing the memory was listed as 5_6MB (I think it was 556 or 536). Then I started Windows and went into My Computer and clicked on "Properties" in the C:/ Drive. It was listed as 1.06GB; same as before I installed the memory. How do I get my system to recoginze the memory and use it?
I need help ASAP as I'm trying to create a dvd for my dad for Christmas by transferring a video from when I was younger onto my computer via USB Streaming and need more memory to complete it.
Thanks for your help :-)

It happens when I boot up. After the windows xp logo with the screen will turn blue (aka the blue screen of death) but then it will only work if I boot into safe mode then restart into regular. I have no idea how this could keep happening even after I reformatted could it be a hardware failure? Thanks a lot for anyone who helps me.

I am upgrading from a AMD 3000+ XP cpu to a AMD 4000+ 939 cpu. Will the upgrade make it impossible to use the factory version of Windows I have? If no, do i need to make changes in anything after installation?

My computer is less than a year old, and the disc drive hasn't been used that much. Lately, it has been reading CDs, but not DVDs (blank or otherwise) it states that the drive is empty when it is a DVD format disc in there. I have tried reinstalling the original software , and updating the software with updates off of the internet, but it's still not reading? Anything else I should try before I pay an arm and a leg to have it sent to Timbuctu for repairs? Normally, I would assume that the disc drive has somehow been disconnected, but for the fact that it reads CDs fine...?

Can anyone suggest an economical package ($500-$600)? Thank you.

Everytime i turn on my computer nothing appears on screen and i get 1 long beep followed by 2 short beeps. I use the award bios and have figured this problem has something to do with the graphics adapter. Since im using intergrated graphics does this mean that i need to replace my motherboard? (note i have tried using a graphics card but i still get 1 long beep followed by 2 short ones.) The cable connecting the computer to the screen is connected correctly. Im using a cpu, psu, motherboard and ram just to get a picture on screen so i presume the problem lies within one of these components but would like to confirm its the motherboard that needs replacing before i buy a new one.
