2. will this effect the login or authentication process?
3. how can can i make a backup dhcp server if in case my current dhcp server fails then it will automatically gives the same ip address to everyone in my network.

We're getting $26 / month DSL in a rural area; are we being ripped off?

I had a working wireless network with two computers. The config was one laptop, one desktop, both wirelessly connected through an AT&T "Plug & Share" router (model 6800) to my Comcast cable modem.

Both PC's worked OK online, then one crashed. While troubleshooting, I reset the router. I have since gone into the router setup & reconfigured it with a new network name (SSID), made sure WEP and WPA are off (for testing), dynamic IP on and DHCP server "On."

I can get online with ethernet cable connected PC>router, but not wirelessly. If not connected w/ Ethernet, Win Vista Ntwk & Shr'g center finds the network (SSID). But when I connect it says "Unidentified Network" on the net map, but under Connection below it shows the real net name (SSID). Under "Access" it says "Local Only" (not "local and internet") and I can't access the internet.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to change it? Ask me if you need more info to help diagnose this. Email's welcome.

Thanks!!

Hello, I'm going to be subscribing to Qwest DSL (I wish Verizon FIOS was here!!), but I don't want to pay the $8.00/month rental fee for their modem -- I'd rather purchase one. What brand DSL modem do you recommend? I'm mainly looking for something that is stable (doesn't require resets all the time so long as the DSL is stable), good quality, and will interface with my Linksys router. Thanks!

All the computers in my house connect to a network router. I can connect to the router with my other computer, but no the internet. It is DHCP enabled and I can connect and print to a printer on another computer on the network. The host computer and 3 other client computers can connect to the internet. I've tried 2 different network adapters and I can connect to the router with both just not the internet. The one I am using for that computer right now is Linksys model WUSB54GC. I have renewed the IP address and I can ping the ip addresses and default gateways and everything. Once an error message about the DNS Server popped up, but I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I have the same settings on every computer. I have walked through almost all of the windows troubleshooters relating to the internet and networking, but nothing worked. I have tried many different websites and have found many people with the same unresolved problem. Please help me. Thank you.

As dissapointing as it is my new house doesn't support cable, so ill have to get DSL (sigh) ive had highspeed forever, and im so unfamiliar with DSL, what exactly is it, and how much slower is it than highspeed, or does that depend on the carrier service? I know its a telephone line, so does this mean I can't recieve calls if im on the internet or something? normally im good with stuff like this, but ive never had dsl, so help!!

I have a Belkin ADSL Modem with Wireless G Router. I've had it for about 6 months and it's worked nearly fault free. I got home from holiday tonight & found that it had been switched off from the mains and when it was switched back on would not connect to the internet. After checking the router I saw that the phone light was not illuminated. I've tried unplugging and replugging it with little success. Any ideas? Does anyone know what might be wrong?

My 100 foot network cable that I ran upstairs last fall has been so much better. Was able to use my router and still have a pc upstairs. But, a problem has arising. The end that plugs into the computer doesnt clip in anymore (the prong broke off). Do they sell any type of glove or anything that I can put on it fix it. It becomes loose easily and most people say just buy a new cable its cheap enough. But my time and money of rewiring it is not worth it to me. Is there any type of device I can use or any suggestions? Thanks.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the network driver under Device Manager w/o success. I have also preformed ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew on the laptop w/o success.

i have the new fios hooked up in my house. i have a wireless router in the living room that is hooked into the fios. down in the basement, i have a ps2 and an xbox 360 that i would like to connect to the internet, a pc upstairs with a wireless networking card and another pc in the living room and my laptop downstairs in the basement that runs on wireless. i have another wireless router that i have used in the past that still works fine. is it possible to send the signal from the living room to a router in the basement? can they be set up to receive a signal, as opposed to sending one? if not, what are my other options? help would be appreciated.
