The connection fails when there is some sort of confusion between IP's or something, so I often have to unplug and plug back in my router to regain connection. How to I ping wirelessly to not have to do this?

I have a Wireless N router that boasts speeds up to 270Mbps. My ISP offers different tiers of service, you pay more for faster speeds. What I was contemplating is, is the 270Mbps the fastest my internet service will ever be if I never plan to be wired to my network and thus would it make sense to pay for internet service faster than 270Mbps (or whatever the lowest tier is.....assuming it's faster than 270Mbps)? Are the router speeds measured in mega bits and the ISP speeds measured in mega bytes?

adding another phone jack? We only get dial up if that matters. It's not convient to just run an extenstion cord from the current jack. I don't know anything about routers; is that what I need?

I have a wireless network at home with a wireless linksys router that is connected to my main pc using Windows XP, I have a second desktop with a wireless USB device using XP also. Both of these computers are connected to a home network that I have set up and have no problems with file and internet sharing. I recently bought a new laptop that is wireless ready and it came with Windows Vista home edition. I connected to my home network, entered int he security code and the laptop connects fine to my network automatically and goes online fine. The problem I am having is, I cant seem to perform any file sharing with this laptop. When I go into the network section it is only showing the laptop and neither of the 2 desktops using XP which are named differently on the network. This is my first time using Vista so I am wondering if I am missing something. The main desktop has the my docs section set for sharing also.

I have a home network set up with 4 computers. Each computer connects to the internet through the router but we share a printer over the network. Were on a metered internet plan but one of my flat mates goes through all our usage in about a week. Is it possible to disconnect his PC from the network from my computer when he is doing this with high internet usage. Then allow him to connect back on when I no longer need to go on the internet

I have model 2701HG-B. This is for ATT DSL.

The instructions say I can type http://2wire.gateway.net and access the control panel to change the password, security settings, radio channel, etc.

However when I try this, either wirelessly, or hooked up through internet cable, it gives me a "This page cannot be displayed" message.

How can I access control panel to make the changes I want to make?

I have an Internet Security Camera that only connects to an Ethernet cable and a powercord. I have it set up through my router, (it gives it IP 192.168.1.3) I can access this camera from within my network; but how can I access this from the Internet? That 192. number obviously isn't it's real IP number it's what the router gives it. So what do I do?

I used to have just a normal router to share internet connection between mine and my husband's computers. Recently my husband brought home a new wireless firewall router. After a long 'playing around' with the setting, he finally got the wireless router to work, but only to realise port forwarding is blocked when using this new router and can't seem to get the settings right to allow port forwarding. Finally decided to change back to our old standard router, only to find that port forwarding is still blocked and can't get it to work the way it used to work.
We even tried and pressed the reset button on the standard router, didn't seem to work. It feels like from changing to the wireless router and back, some settings are changed without us knowing what is it.
Is there any suggestions? Anything I should be checking? Please help, coz now it's stopping me from doing things I used to be able to do, like downloading and listening to online radio stations. Thanks so much...

I have a password protected network in my house, but when my mac laptop comes back from sleep, it joins my neighbor's open wireless network. I want to use my own network, but sometimes I use my computer for 20 minutes before realizing I'm on the wrong network. I'm using an airport extreme, don't know my neighbor's wireless router. I don't even know what neighbor it is to talk to about it.

I have just bought a new linksys router to extend my coverage and connected it to my d-link router. When I called tech support, he set me up with two different names and password for each router(i.e. D-Link is Net1 and Linksys is Net2 - each with diff passcodes.) Is it possible for these two to run together on just one name and password? This would make one connection overall, rather me having to switch back and forth from each connection each time I move into another room.

Im setting up a network in my basement and need a router down here because the modem is upstairs. I only have 1 cable long enough to reach down here so i figured "ill get a router and split the connection to all 3 computers". So i bought a netgear router and it didnt create internet for some reason. It did however create a LAN between the 3 computers, as i was able to play a multiplayer game between them. But no internet. I figured that it was the router so i went to radioshak and bought a linksys 4 port standard router. I got it and set it up exactly as the wizard told me to do. Again tho the internet is not available where as a LAN is. Also i know the chord running down from the modem works as it will give internet to watever computer i plug it into. Maybe i need a special chord? its a standard Cat 5e ethernet.
