i know that when it says limited or no connectivity, its connected in general, and i KNOW i have the right key in, but it just wont like... work. i dont know if it has to do with static ip or what.

i have a wireless card built in, by the way.

my desktop ip is
192.168.1.100
and my laptop one is
169.254.2.139
so thats why im like.. what the heck. cause it should be close to the same range as my desktop.. and its nowhere near that.

Not exactly sure what the fix is but go to your desktop and lookup the IP settings. Your laptop should be similar except for the IP address specific to that computer. No two computers can have the same IP address. Your Linksys is probably set with the 192.168.1.1 gateway address so the computers will probably be in the range of 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254. If you have DHCP enabled it should pick up everything automatically.

If that doesn't help, provide more info as to what your IP settings are on your two computers please. To do this, you click start, then run, type "cmd" and hit enter, then type "ipconfig /all" then hit enter. Do this on both computers.

If you were working fine and then one day you got limited or no connectivity then you probably should reboot the router by unplugging the power and then plugging it back in. This was mentioned by someone else, and it will usually do the trick if it just happened to you.

If that doesn't work then try manually entering the IP address, the gateway, and the server addresses on your laptop and see what happens. Also, see if the router shows up constantly in the view available wireless networks place. If it comes and goes then you may need to get closer.

Otherwise, look at the router settings to make sure they are what you want them to be. To access the router, type "192.168.1.1" this is the gateway address, into your internet browser on your desktop and hit enter. On older linksys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." On newer linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin." As was said earlier make sure that the router is in mixed mode so that it will allow both wireless B and G devices to connect. and that your laptop supports the encryption that the wireless router is configured with.

From what you've written, it seems that the problem occurs only when you remove the connection from the xbox and put it back to the PC, correct? If you initially put it to your PC, then no problem, correct? For some reason, the notebook's NIC is dynamically able to detect the connection when a cable is plugged into it. The desktop on the other hand, is not dropping the previous IP address/connection and thus, unable to dynamically detect when the cable is plugged back in. Check your network card properties and see if there is anywhere that can enable a dynamic connection (you didn't mention what OS you're using else i could be of more help). Failing that, your only other option is to run "ipconfig /renew" from a dos prompt on your desktop.

Make sure you are actually connected to the router. Simply because the laptop "sees" the wireless network it will not automatically connect. Check to make sure that you are connected by checking your wireless networks settings. Also what kind of computer do you have? Wireless card? What program is managing your wireless card? The more information you provide, the better answer you will get.

Rt click on My Computer, click on Manage, go to services and make sure that Wireless Zero configuration is started. When you install linksys, it tries to run the router, Windows also wants to run the router, have windows do it for you. Make sure that you have your router configured to use mixed network mode and .. have DHCP server enabled.

i have the same problem and usually what i do is just unplug the router for like 2 mins and then plug it back in. That usually solves my problem until it happens again. . . I heard a lot on linksys routers having that problem. . . Im thinkin about gettin a netgear router because those are supposed to work a lot better

seems like you're typing in the wrong password. so check that. when the connection is limited or no connectivity, the computer can not get an IP address. if you typed in the IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS manually.. double check that. it's the IP/TCP properties. good luck.
