use a router and if your other comp is a bit far from main comp and you dont want extra wires then get wireless router and a wireless usb hub. You only need one wireless usb hub for the girls comp as your own will be attached straight to the router. They are quite inexpensive now and as long as you have broadband you wont come across any problems.
Theres a tutorial here http://www.jackiestewart.co.uk/files/share%20internet%20connection.htm

If you have high speed internet and you meant a HIGHSPEED MODEM (cable or DSL) get a router.
Short answer:
If you are talking about DIAL UP 56k internet, sorry there is no way to share that easily.
Long answer
Yes you could setup a network both computers using a switch, then share the dialup connection off the other computer (that has the 56k modem)...but this is not for the faint of heart and should be posted in another question.

Both your computer are desk top or one is laptop.?Ac tally both computer all has internal modern. The one you talking about must be external. Is it connect to cable line?If yes one computer direct connect this modern and you buy a wireless router connect the modern then use wireless transmite to other computer and this computer must have wireless receiver otherwise you need to buy a wireless card to plug to it.Talk to computer shop people they will show you what you should by.different window system don't matter.
