I have model 2701HG-B. This is for ATT DSL.

The instructions say I can type http://2wire.gateway.net and access the control panel to change the password, security settings, radio channel, etc.

However when I try this, either wirelessly, or hooked up through internet cable, it gives me a "This page cannot be displayed" message.

How can I access control panel to make the changes I want to make?

First you need to find your IP address. Start/Run type in CMD. press enter. In the screen that opens, type IPCONFIG in small letters. This will tell what the gateway is such as 192.168.1.1. Open IE and in the address space, type http://(the gateway address) and press return. This will get you to the login screen. Enter the user and password to get into the router and make changes. You have to save each page before going to another section to make changes. After the final save, simply close IE to get out.

Your best bet is to be hard-wired to the device for these operations.

From what I gather, you should access "http://gateway.2wire.net/management".

If this doesn't work, you might have other troubles.

Try opening a command prompt "Start -> Run -> cmd"

then into that type "ipconfig".

The address of the "Default gateway" is probably the address of your gateway. Try entering the IP address into a web browser and see what comes up.

Most wireless routers have a feature called port forwarding -- it's often under the firewall settings. It lets you specify a port number or port range and which LAN address should receive it.
