1) Yes. It doesn't matter what kind of domain our windows networking environment you have set up. Just make sure your router does provide DHCP services (as most do).

2) Not if you DHCP scope and environment are set up correctly. There are several articles in the Microsoft KB regarding this.

3) You can't really set up an environment that has two DHCP servers giving out the same IP's. You could, however, have two DHCP server running together, each assigning an IP from 2 different pools. i.e. DHCP #1 = 192.168.1.10 - 125 and DHCP #2 = 192.168.1.126 - 254. This assumes you don't have more clients than what would fit in each IP range.

If your windows Domain is using DHCP it could block others from logging into the Domain.

The solution is to have the server or another computer setup to be the only one on the Domain to see the router and have all acess to the internet through router pass through that server or computer.

As far as a backup DHCP, this may be of interest to you.

Hello,

Yes you can. You would have specify what kind of router you have, but most routers have a DHCP capability to network your computers. As far as the backup server you would have to create a routing table, judging by your inquiry. If it matters what computers get what IP address you might as well assign all of the nodes (PCs) static IPs instead of using a DHCP server.

Good Luck!

If you are using SBS then no you cannot for point 1 and point 3

point three - you should create two scopes one that starts at say x.x.x.2 through to 127 then on the other scope (machine) do 128 through 254.
