Where can you find your DHCP Client ID on a Windows 2000 XP computer?

I need it to try and set up an internet connection using my cabel modem's ethernet cable.

Oh sorry I have Windows XP. I thought they were the same.

Your computer is the DHCP client. I think you're looking for the DHCP server IP address, which is the same as your cable modem.

So do you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP? The two are quite different.

I'd recommend that you call your cable company's technical support and let them help you or set it up for you.

If you read the manual it will give you a method to connect via a web browser. You can then configure the modem. To find your IP address you can use start/run and type cmd, then type in ipconfig. This address should be set automatically from the modem. For network settings, there are different methods to access them for 2000 and XP, so without knowing which you have (it can't be both) we can't help.

Hey buddy, If you install XP on your system then it will over ride all the files of 2000 and you will not be able to work on 2000 again. Yes, XP is far better than 2000, dont worry install XP and the ride of your computer wil be very smoother.

Type in: cmd
A DOS window will appear
Type in: ipconfig /all
It will display several lines of information which include your host name (ID), IP address, etc.

Oh...none of that information (including the ID) should be needed to set up cable modem. You usually need the ID (IP) of the modem, not of your computer. Only your ISP can get you that information.

If you are not familiar with the process, may I politely recommend that you contact your ISP for assistance. It should be free, and as it ISP set up is specific to that service, they will be the best ones to tell you how to do it.
