I want to add a second Wireless Access point to my Wireless network. The manual that comes with the new Access point sugests that it needs to have the same IP address as my original Wireless router. This seems strange to me? Is this the case or could the manual just be poorly written?

If it doesn't need to be the same Ip address, then what will the gateway be of the machines connecting to the network?

The hard drives on the server need to be defragged real bad but I don't want to bring the network to a standstill while I'm running disk defrag. Windows 2000 is the OS so I don't have the ability to set a tme for it to automatically start.

I have three computers set up as follows; XP computer with internet access connected to a Windows ME computer with two network cards and is connected to another Windows ME computer. The first ME computer has a the internet connection from the XP one but how do I bridge the first ME's network cards together so the second one can 'see' the XP computer and use the internet without buying a hub or anything else but I will use any free software I can get. I already asked this question a while back but I was only told how to do it on XP(My Network Places - View Network Connections - highlight two connections wanted to be bridged - Right Click - Bridge). This process does NOT work on ME (trust me, I've spend hours trying to do it). Any help would REALLY be appreciated. Thanks.

I have an SC101 NAS, is it possible to map it as a network drive rather than to use it as the software, alot of functions are disabled - i.e. maintaining the drive. Also I cannot use software like Norton Ghost on it... Help would be appreciated! :-)

I just bought a Vantec NAS device and I cannot seem to access the files on my pc through my home network.
Here's some info:
XP Home Edition & a Linksys WRT54G Router.
I can log into 192.168.1.100 to view and change the NAS's settings (they are currently at default). FYI: Host name: "STORAGE-4A99", Group Name: "WorkGroup" (same as my pc).
When I open "My Network Places" I see my hp wireless printer (in the local network). When I click on my workgroup in Windows Explorer I see: my laptop pc and 2 icons for my NAS. One is named: "STORAGE-4A99" and the other is named: "STORAGE-4A99 \\(192.168.1.100)".
When I click on the "STORAGE-4A99" I get the error: "...Storage-4A99 not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource...".
When I click on "STORAGE-4A99 \\(192.168.1.100)" nothing happens.
I click on the icon for my laptop, I see an icon for "Printers and Faxes" and another for "Scheduled Tasks".
FYI: All of the files on the NAS are located in a folder called "public".

I have yahoo/sbc dsl.I've had it for about 2 years now and ever since the first day,I've had problems with the connections,I call and they say they can send someone out but if the problem is made by an error [caused by me ie no filters in plugs] they'll charge me $60...so i've kept from doing that, however, there are times in the year where it gets really bad,to the point where the connection is lost/bad every 3 or 5 minutes...like right now...The DSL Light, keeps flashing RED and when I go to my login/connection page,I run a connection check and the ADSL says FAILED..when someone calls or makes a call, the modem goes out......so what could be causing this long problem? is it the filter issue? I doubt it,all filters are placed in the right phone jacks..what else could it be? any insight would be much appreciated

I had my two computers linked together and they worked quite quickly, I bought a mobo and reformatted windows on one and now I get digustingly slow transfer rates. I simply use the trick where you type \\computername to access the other computer, which I have designated the hard disks to be shared.

My reformatted computer finds my other one very quickly, however, now it takes the computer i did not format ages to see the formatted computer. Nonetheless, either way, copying files from both ends seems to be pretty slow.

I noticed I have one more PC in the house under another router I used to connect to sometimes and it used to give me that terrible searching time to connect and slow transfer. Now its happening across the two pcs connected in my room over 1 router. It really is annoying.

Any suggestions on what might have caused this and how to fix it?

I have three outside locations. Within about 200 miles from the central location. I need to know how to hook them all together so the outside locations have access to our server here at the home location. Right now the use terminal server which is not working for us. I would like them to be able to log in just like they are here and have access to our shared drives and things like that. Any ideas would be great

I have a laptop which has the USB wireless modem attached, the PC can access the laptop via a wireless network with the exception of internet access, Telstra told me it could be done while a PC company in my area said it couldn't be done.

Has anyone had this problem and solved it? Both computers are Windows XP and I am using a D Link wireless router.
