I just bought a Vantec NAS device and I cannot seem to access the files on my pc through my home network.
Here's some info:
XP Home Edition & a Linksys WRT54G Router.
I can log into 192.168.1.100 to view and change the NAS's settings (they are currently at default). FYI: Host name: "STORAGE-4A99", Group Name: "WorkGroup" (same as my pc).
When I open "My Network Places" I see my hp wireless printer (in the local network). When I click on my workgroup in Windows Explorer I see: my laptop pc and 2 icons for my NAS. One is named: "STORAGE-4A99" and the other is named: "STORAGE-4A99 \\(192.168.1.100)".
When I click on the "STORAGE-4A99" I get the error: "...Storage-4A99 not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource...".
When I click on "STORAGE-4A99 \\(192.168.1.100)" nothing happens.
I click on the icon for my laptop, I see an icon for "Printers and Faxes" and another for "Scheduled Tasks".
FYI: All of the files on the NAS are located in a folder called "public".

Check the share status of the "public" folder on the NAS. It has to allow the user to connect. Dont have a Vantec but the NAS we installed had this until we made changes to the permissions on it.
