I have yahoo/sbc dsl.I've had it for about 2 years now and ever since the first day,I've had problems with the connections,I call and they say they can send someone out but if the problem is made by an error [caused by me ie no filters in plugs] they'll charge me $60...so i've kept from doing that, however, there are times in the year where it gets really bad,to the point where the connection is lost/bad every 3 or 5 minutes...like right now...The DSL Light, keeps flashing RED and when I go to my login/connection page,I run a connection check and the ADSL says FAILED..when someone calls or makes a call, the modem goes out......so what could be causing this long problem? is it the filter issue? I doubt it,all filters are placed in the right phone jacks..what else could it be? any insight would be much appreciated

This is usually caused by local connection issues.

Try this, disconnect all phones and all other items connected to the line locally and hook the dsl modem directly to the phone jack.

Then try the DSL. If it all works properly start to reconnect filters and phones. Start with the jack your DSL is connected into plug in the filter and connect a phone. Check your DSL.

Follow the same procedure until everything is reconnected, I will bet you find the issue.

If it still has a problem have them send the experts to come out. (you may have a bad or shorted wire somewhere or one of the line filters outside has an issue which is the phone companies issue in which case there won't be a charge.)

I had this because of a bad fax machine.. everytime it connected the DSL had issues. Got a different fax, problem vanished.

You need to have a filter in every jack which has a phone, fax, modem or answering machine attached as well as the one to the dsl modem. The filter must go direct to the jack, no splitters etc. TThen try removing all the phones. connect 1 phone to the modem connected filter and make a call, often just dialling the first digit will kill the connection. If this works correctly try the same phone in another filter and so on. If you have a bad filter this should show which. If none of them causes a problem, repeat this with each phone in turn in case you have one that is breaking across the filter. Cordless are most likely to cause this. You can then replace any faulty filter or phone.

I like tracy's advice although I'm not a networking expert. How frustrating it must be to have a problem like that and talk to customer support and they can't even help you.

If you have other broadband options, I would certainly start exploring them if tracy's suggestion doesn't work.
