Rebooted the computer and tried to install my NTL cd rom to install the internett connection thing, but despite repeated attempts the CD rom only went so far and then came up with error code 800 and asked me to retry. I eventualy gave up. Then just decided to click on the E symbol and low and behold I got straight on to the internet, but I didn't install it?

From my understanding you run the DSL into the wireless router with ethernet and then make sure your computers have the correct wireless cards in them. Is that correct?

If my router (Netgear) is hooked up to my computer, my computer will not recognize the modem(Westell). I think this is because the IP addresses of the two both start with 192.168.1...and the router thinks everything is addressed to it and doesn't send anything through the modem. How do I change the IP address for my router? The address 192.168.1.1 won't work without the router hooked up, but the internet doesn't work if the router is. I really appreciate any help, thanks.

I would like to buy a more powerful router whose signal will reach downstairs with the router upstairs. The modem/router Verizon provides is the Westell Versalink 327W, can I buy a better router and hook it up to that? Any suggestions on what router to buy are appreciated. Primarily, I will be hooking up a Playstation 3 wirelessly.

I need to network, or set up something that is like a network, with two computers that are about two miles apart, and connected to the Internet using DSL. I'd like this network to only be able to access one folder, and be secure enough that those networked cannot get into other files. I have a found a program that does something like this in the way of Onshare, but it wont work on my PC.

An alternative would be to have a program that you can use to directly send and receive files with as much bandwith to that operation as possible. I really am hoping for some kind of network here though.

Any help would be appreciated here.

I've seen it in quite a lot of restaurants, cafes, and McDonalds'. What does wi-fi do and how can you get wi-fi? To get wi-fi do you need to purchase a specific card or something of that sort for your laptop or are laptops wi-fi compatible?

i seem to be getting 2 signals from my wireless router one called default and one with the ssid name i gave it when i hooked it up. i originaly had my router going thru a hub to another router and had barely enough signal to pick it up but i had to resetup by modem to my router to the hub. when im really close to my router i cant pick up the default but from my room i pick up both and neither are strong enough to get connected. is there anything i can do? after 4 pm and weekends i cant acess my router to fiddle with it so if i cant get connected im screwed. im also looking into a thing called a cantina or bigger/stronger antennas for my d-link 524 router if anyone has advice about those things that be great too.

I'm using Windows XP Home, and the network is at the top of my Preferred Networks. I disconnected from the network, which changed it from Automatic to Manual, and now I can't see how I would change that back. There is a setting within the connections properties that says 'Connect when this network is in range' but that changes it to On Demand.
