we have 4 computers that connect to a router but they are stand alone and we are not connected to a server.

is there any program out there where i can send messages to the other computers even though we are stand alone. can i send a message to another computer if i have there IP address? any help would be appreciated.

The messenger programs require a server. There are command line facilities for this, in a command window type net /? You need to set up all the machines to accept messages this way.

You could download some type of Instant Messenger program, such as Yahoo! Instant Messenger or AOL Instant Messenger. You will be able to send messages to anyone else who has these programs, even if they aren't on your particular network.
