I checked my eternet adapter, it is working fine. I have tried to do a repair on the LAN, but it can't finish b/c it can't renew my IP address. It's not my ISP b/c my other computer is working fine. How can I get my ip address back so I can connect to the internet? I have Windows XP.

Sometimes with very short power outages routers get hung and fail to issue addresses or route properly (they do use processors to do this) Try power cycling the router, unplug it wait 1 minute, reconnect power and wait for it to complete its reboot process.. Then try your machine again.

Go to start > Control Panel > Internet options > Make sure that it is set to automatically detect DNS and IP. Try disabling the connection, then restarting the connection.

this occurs to me now and returned. i desire to propose unplugging and arranged for thirty seconds, then replugging the router and/or cable modem returned in. this resets the community and could assign your pc a clean ip handle. desire this helps!
