The modem had a dynamic IP and we asked AT&T for a static IP. They gave us a range x.80-85 with a gateway being x.86. What do I do with these IPs? The remote pc at home will use the Netgear Secure VPN Client software (Prosafe VPN Client).

Hi, I have a Linksys WRK54G Wireless WiFi Router. and I know of alot of modded firmwares for the WRT54G Linksys and WRT54GS Linksys but I can't find any for a WRK54G.
and I know that it is alot like a WRT...BUT it has only 1 antenna and it has a marvel chipset in it so modded ones like sveasoft,dd-wrt-tomato...the list goes on! but anyway I bought it ONLY for the usb adapter mainly then my BEFW11S4 B router went out so I was forced to use this one so I would like to know if there is any modded firmwares cause this router is som etimes even slower then my old Wireless-B router...AND ITS A G ! so that is bad and that is why I am wanting to know.

Thanks alot !

I ask because I live in an apartment that offers free wireless internet, but lately they made some kind of "update" and since then my laptop will no longer connect to the network. I went to the office two times telling them something was wrong, but no one ever came by to fix it, or even called me. My requests were completely ignored. I recently realized that I can connect to the someone else's network that lives in the same apartment complex as me. However, I don't want to keep connecting to their network if they can tell that I'm connecting though because I have no idea who it is and I don't want them to get frustrated with me connecting to their network. So anyways I'd just like to know if that person will be alerted everytime I connect to their network. If so I will have to cuss out the people in the office to get them to come fix my laptop!

I have installed Ubuntu and can open it with Grub or open my WinXP but the Ubuntu will not find any server. I have an always on DSL connection with a SpeedStream 5100 router. I also have a Linksys Wireless-G Booster that my dads computer connects with thru my connection running Win 98. I have also downloaded a SUSE Linux DVD iso file using bittorent & isobuster to a second hard drive but cannot open any of these files or do anything with them to even instal. Is there any Linux distro worth even trying or is it just a waste of time if you are not a programmer? Any constructive input would be greatly appreciated.

I got my internet speed tested at a few websites, and all of them list me roughly in the 2,000 kb/s range. But isn't that just 2 mb/s? How come some wireless routers have listed speeds up to 108 mb/s? Is there something I'm missing? Are those speeds for two different things? Thanks.

I just bought this NETGEAR router and I set it up on my desktop, but for some odd reason, when I try to use my lap top, it won't connect to the internet. I did everything the disc told me to, but I'm still having issues with it. I could call someone but I refuse to pay 90 dollars to get someone to fix it and the solution is probably right under my nose. So is there a computer savvy person out there who can give me a little more insight on my router problem? Thanks!

I heard a radio comercial about Internet service. If you can get a Altell signal then you can get internet, It was meaning a home computer.I get Altel signal in my house with no problem. I am in a tiny little town with no wireless,no caple or dsl. I have tried every phone company and theres only 1 cable company. I could get Satilite internet..a friend of mine has it and it's not really much faster then my dial up,But she pays a whole lot more for it! I pay $9.95,she pays $59.99 a month. Her's is a hole 30 seconds or a min, faster then mine loading pages. Not to mention the $250 she paind to get it connected! So I am wondering about that Altell internet comercial....I havn't heard it again! I want to check it out....Ya, i'm in the middle of NO WHERE -Upper Michigan. The lines for DSL end 1 block befor my street and they won't bring them though the town. It's a (village) and not enough votes.
