Most hotels (from low budget to top of the line) are now offering broadband access so you don't have to dial up. Some charge $10 per day if you use it in your room. Most will accept wireless in the lobby for free. If you need to dialup there is usually a dataport on the phone so you don't have to crawl around on the floor to plug in. Just dial for an outside line and then call the local access number for AOL or whoever you use.

If you are using a wireless network, likely you are using a laptop. Most halfway decent hotels now have wireless hot spots for people staying in their hotels. You just need to change your wireless settings to allow it to connect to the available network, then launch Yahoo as usual.
Call your hotel before you arrive to confirm they have a hot spot available. Even if they don't, most starbucks and panera bread restaurants have free wireless hot spots.

If you have a service provider at home ,you can call and many times they will give you remote access info. to be able to dial up at the motel. If not you can call ATT, AOL, etc. and subscribe for their "free" month. Remember to cancel when you get home. Local web providers will more likely have local dial up numbers too.

most hotels now have wireless. some hotels will give you a code at check in. if you have to have a code turn on laptop, go to internet explorer, it will ask you to put in the code, hit accept and it should hook up or at some hotels you only click internet explorer and hit accept or ok - i work for 3 different hotels and they are all different.
