I had my two computers linked together and they worked quite quickly, I bought a mobo and reformatted windows on one and now I get digustingly slow transfer rates. I simply use the trick where you type \\computername to access the other computer, which I have designated the hard disks to be shared.

My reformatted computer finds my other one very quickly, however, now it takes the computer i did not format ages to see the formatted computer. Nonetheless, either way, copying files from both ends seems to be pretty slow.

I noticed I have one more PC in the house under another router I used to connect to sometimes and it used to give me that terrible searching time to connect and slow transfer. Now its happening across the two pcs connected in my room over 1 router. It really is annoying.

Any suggestions on what might have caused this and how to fix it?

Do you have a virus that is eating bandwidth? Usually I have found the number one cause of slow lan to be a trojan, worm, or virus that is simply eating up more than the available bandwidth. (many times virus scans MISS)

Try an online scan from a virus service that is not the one you have on your machines.

May not be the issue but that is where I would start.

Seems to be a problem with transfer protocal. Check to make sure that all of the PC's are set up the same way. It could also be a software problem. Check the settings.
