I have a Linsys router and wired it to my Vaio desktop and the internet works on the desktop. I have a Dell notebook with built in wireless and connects to the access point and is able to use the internet at 54mbps. The problem I am having is enabling File Sharing and Printer Sharing between my laptop and my desktop. I have created a network but the desktop does not detect the laptop under the workgroup computers tab and the laptop does not detect the desktop. I have both pc's setup to share folders such as my documents and I have configured the printer to be shared over the network but when I try to access the network on my laptop it says that I do not have permission and when I access it on my desktop it doesnt have any computers listed as being in the network. Please, any help would greatly be appreciated !

The only way to determine whether it's a logical bus, ring or star is to figure out how the circuit board (that resides within the central device) transmits the data.

Is that right?

I have an alright linksys wirless b router, it wasn't my choice to buy, i'm a dlink fan, anyway i have a dilemma, the signal strength is alright, but i have two computers in the room about 10 feet away from were the router is, (both iMacs) one has airport(wireless capabilities) and the other doesn't, i want them both to be wireless, im thinking about putting teh router above my door which would be a straighter shot into that room, my computer is wired so it doenst matte were the router is, so is tehre anythign that can pick up the signal form teh router and amplify it into teh room, or should i use a wireless bridge that picks up teh signal and hooks up with an ethernet cord to the computer, OR use a wirless b USB card i have, which would be the best

The one I like is network+ certification by Mike Meyers. I'm hoping to get another one similar to it.

Any networking books(doesn't have to be network+) that have a lot of pictures will do.
Also, I'm new to Networking, so I'm hoping to get those that are for beginners.

I'm using a wireless PCI adapter to connect to a new internet provider in Toronto. My signal strength is about 50% all the time and they have a frequency at 802.11b . I can download files up to 200KB/s (sometimes even more) but my problem is that I always have to refresh the pages alot until I get the website in my browser...it always says "waiting for www...." Do you guys think it is a connection problem, a setting problem or is it just from the service provider? I always (or almost all the time) get the website loaded but it is a pain having to refresh the browser over and over to get the whole page. As I said, I usually have no problem downloading a file, but it always takes a long time to load a web page. Thank you so much in advance.

I looked at a few websites.
A couple of them say all 4 topology (bus, ring, star, mesh) and be both physical and logical.

But other sources say the only 2 logical topologies are bus and ring.

I don't know which statement is accurate.

I have 2 computers computer (a) and coputer (b). Both computers running xp. Computer (A) has 2 network cards in it. Computer (B) has 1 network card in it. I have fiberoptic internet. I also have 2 lynksys 4 port routers, patch cables, and crossover cables to use if needed. I want the internet signal to come directly into computer (A) through network card 1 and I want it to be shared with computer (B) through netowork card 2 in computer (A). I want it like this because computer (a) is a server and the routers mess up what I do with it. And my little brother uses computer (B). And he is not very internet savy and he has filled up computer (B) in the past with spyware. So I want to filter all content going to it through computer (A). How do I do this? I have tried conecting computer (A) to computer (B) with patch cables and crossover cables but the lights on the network card do not come one. But If I stick a router in between the 2, It works. But then I can't get ICS to work. Wada I do???

I have two computers connected with a crossover cable. I can share files with the two computers, but why can't I add something to the opposing computer. I tried to copy and paste a document from one computer to the other, but it said cannot copy; access is denied. Disk may be full or damaged.
FIle printer sharing is on.
I need to transfer files from one computer to the other.
One more small question, I have a dial up internet connection, is there anyway I could coonnect to the internet through the other computer as well and if so, how?
