I have a Linsys router and wired it to my Vaio desktop and the internet works on the desktop. I have a Dell notebook with built in wireless and connects to the access point and is able to use the internet at 54mbps. The problem I am having is enabling File Sharing and Printer Sharing between my laptop and my desktop. I have created a network but the desktop does not detect the laptop under the workgroup computers tab and the laptop does not detect the desktop. I have both pc's setup to share folders such as my documents and I have configured the printer to be shared over the network but when I try to access the network on my laptop it says that I do not have permission and when I access it on my desktop it doesnt have any computers listed as being in the network. Please, any help would greatly be appreciated !

My Windows Firewall is configured to allow File and Printer Sharing and my Norton Firewall is off.

As it turns out the Norton firewall was on and it was not allowing the file/printer sharing so instead of turning it off I just configured the Norton firewall to allow it and now it works great ! Thanks for all the help and I will choose a best answer in the morning

to enable file/printer sharing in windows xp, right click on a folder and click on sharing and security; sharing tab. click "share this folder" and they you understand thrisks blah blah. when asked use "just enable file prointer sharing". now enabling this doesnt just make it show up sometimes so in a windows explorer (as apposed to internet explorer) enter "\\192.168.xx.xx" (without the quotes) where the numbers there are the computer's ip address. you can find the computers ip by running ipconfig in the command prompt

Well, first of all, what operating system are you running on each computer?
