I have two computers connected with a crossover cable. I can share files with the two computers, but why can't I add something to the opposing computer. I tried to copy and paste a document from one computer to the other, but it said cannot copy; access is denied. Disk may be full or damaged.
FIle printer sharing is on.
I need to transfer files from one computer to the other.
One more small question, I have a dial up internet connection, is there anyway I could coonnect to the internet through the other computer as well and if so, how?

Well, you don't say what OS you are running on either computer, but check the folder/drive that you want to share to, and see if you are allowing other network users to write to your drive or update files on your drive (that would not be the default)...
As far as sharing your dial-up connection, it's been about 10 years since I did that, but I think there is something in the modem properties that let's you share the connection, not sure about that one though. I know it is possible though.

You need to make a public folder on the computer you want to transfer the file to. The permissions should be read/write for all users. Place the files in this folder, then copy them where you want them.

I know of no way to access the Internet through another computers dial up modem.

First off, you must make sure both computers have admin rights to the other (if not you may be able to "read" but not "write"). And yes, you can connect to the internet via the other computer by creating a network and then selecting the "This computer connects to the internet through a permanent LAN connection" option.

Concerning the file sharing; the main thing to you need to check are user accounts. Make sure that you have added an identical account on both machines with exactly the same password. In other words, if you are logged on to one machine as "JSMITH" make sure that the other machine has a user account with the username "JSMITH".

You can share Internet easily using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on Windows XP. Here is a link with a great tutorial on how to set that up. http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/networksetupwiz.htm
Hope this helps!
