Set up a shared connection between both pc's.

.
You would set up a LAN Local Area Network for the two computers to share; as you will join both to the same WORKGROUP.

You can do this wireless
or with hard wire ethernet cable.

1. Connect the incoming ISP signal to the modem.
2. Use a short regular ethernet cable to connect the modem to the first computer1.
3. Use a longer CROSSOVER cable to connect computer1 to computer2-the laptop.

If using ethernet cable, Look on the back of computer1 to see what kind of ports you have available.

Now, to connect computer1 to computer2
the back of computer1 will need to have a RJ 45 port (recommended)
OR at least a USB port

The back of computer2 should have a RjJ45 port also.
Some laptops only have one used for the printer, so you may have to use that one.

You will use these ports to connect the two computers, and your crossover cable will have to have corresponding connectors.
Look for these at WalMart or Radio Shack.

Most all pcs will come equipped with a LAN port,
but If computer1 does not have a port
you can install one. The port is from a NIC
Network Interface Card.

Actually, that's what is inside all the ports are connected to cards which are connected to the motherboard.

If you don't have a NIC, get one from Ebay, or other computer equipment resources.

When you install a NIC you'll just
open your computer,
knock out one of the blank slots on the back of the computer.
and plug the NIC into the motherboard
and close the computer

(remember to destatic yourself = touch metal when touching things inside your computer).

Computer1 will need to be turned on
for computer2 to access the internet.

You will need to go to MyNetwork Places on each computer and run the Network set up wizard.

You will need the "name" of each computer;

you will need to create a "workgroup" name, which will be exactly the same for both computers,

and you will want to make the pc the Server.

You will need to map a sharing drive for each computer like
Drive Z for the pc
and Drive Y for the laptop

...then for each you will create a Shared Docs Folder,
and enable sharing...
into which you will drag/copy the files you want to share.

If you are the Administrator for both computers,
and you want to share everything, then
you can right click and share the C:drive
but for most networks this is not recommended.

To TRANSFER information from pc1 Drive Z
to laptop2 Drive Y
Go to the file in MyNetwork Places
RIGHT click START > L-click Explore > scroll down to the file you want to transfer >
1. Right click the file you want to transfer / hold down right mouse button/ drag the file to tje mapped drive
Z or Y
to the Shared Docs Folder until it is highlighted
let go right-mouse button
select either COPY or MOVE HERE.

If you need more specifics go to
R-click START > L-click Explore
at top tool bar click HELP >
INDEX > type in Networking

Also Right click this link > then click Open in New Window

You have a lot of Option but the common solution here are
first: use flash drive, CDs or any storage media
second: If both your computer has Ethernet port you can use cross-over cable to connect the 2 PCs and from then you can transfer the files you want from the laptop to your pc or vice-versa. MOst probably you can find cross-over cable in some Computer Shops or if you can find one look for a friend that knows how to terminate Cross-Over UTP Cat5e cable you will need
x meters of UTP Cat5e cable depending on how long do you need and atleast 2 RJ45 but if you want to be sure make it 4 just in case it is not properly terminated atleast you still have 2 extras.

Many Ways:

Share the folders in Windows by right clicking the folder that you want to share and push "Sharing" on the drop down menu. They have to both be on the same network to do this though.

USB Thumb drive

CD-R/RW if one of them has a CD burner

Using an internet hosting site

Emailing it to yourself

or even... use a floppy disk
