I've set up dozens of AT&T DSL systems for friends and family in MO and OK. Every single one of them used PPPoE when the connection used a DSL modem. On business class systems with a router, they use static IP addresses.

As Bostonian indicated,At&T DSL uses and always has used PPPOE, I've highspeed service in the Houston area since it's introduction.

PPP is Point-to-Point protocol over Ethernet. I'm sure that those ISPs do not offer any type of wide area Ethernet services.

Most Probably it uses DHCP
