My router is connected to my modem through the ethernet cable, and my router is also connected to my computer through ethernet. However, I have to use a wireless adapter on my machine in order to use the wireless network. There is one other computer on the network, as well as an x-box360. My question is, how can I use the physical connection between my modem/router/computer without having to use a wireless adaptor? Since there are cables running from my modem to the router, and from the router to my machine, why do I need a wireless adaptor at all for this machine? The other machine and x-box connect via wireless and I am fine with that - it's just the one that is connected to the router itself that I want "non-wireless".

I am not super savvy with this stuff so the more detailed you can be that would really make this easier on me. I currently have a unsecured wireless connection and I would like to secure it so that I will have a network key that keep people off my system. I got so many piggybackers I am loosing bandwidth. Please help!

I don't know if this will make a difference but it is a netgear WGR614 and all my computers run XP.

Under basic setup, there is a speed and duplex option. You can set it for 10mb & half, 10mb & full, 100mb & half, and 100mb & full. What are the differences in these options? It was on 10mb and half as a default, but is that the best option for me?

Running 2 computers XP Pro
DLink DI-524.
Both wired connections showing 100Mbps.
But when I Xfer 100MB at a time I see network activity
start off with a spike of 75-80% network usage,
then drop down to 5-8% for the remainder of the Xfer
Taking 20 plus minutes.
Should I not see network utilization at something closer to 50% or more?

My internet connection is fine...i have an exteral modem and router... the ISP is DSL and they have hooked it up. they provided the router and modem so i'd think its the right one to keep up to speed. My friends are also with DSL and download up to 150kbs!! why is it just me.. ive opened up ports on the router and ive even turned off Windows firewall for a few tests. My internet says the speed is 100mbps.. same as my buddy who's getting 150 kbs download speed....what can i do ??
