The filters go on the phones lines. You plug them into the wall socket, the plug the phone into the filters.

* check to see if your ISP uses PPoE for DSL you will might need the user name and password for your account to setup the wireless router

* check the documentation for your router to see what the login user name and passwords are and not the IP address used to connect using the web interface

* if you are going to use MAC address filtering write down all MAC addresses from devices that are going to use the Internet via the router

Power Down all equipment

#1 - connect the phone line from the wall jack into the DSL modem
#2 - connect a Ethernet cable from the LAN port on the DSL modem into the WAN port of the wireless router
#3 - connect another Ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the router to a NIC on either a laptop or PC. you need a hardwired connection to configure the router

#4 - pwr up the DSL modem wait until the Link light is enabled then pwr up the router.
#5 - once the Link light is established on the router pwr up the laptop or PC
#6 - once you log into the router configure the SSID (write down)

* at this point you should be able to enter the SSID in your wireless device and connect to the Internet. once basline connectivity has been established then you can lock down your wireless network with WEP, etc. and MAC address filtering.

* if you are having problems with the DSL line you may have to install the DSL filters. depending on the equipment used by your ISP these may or may not be needed.

the dsl filter is for the phone line where you DO NOT have the dsl modem connected. This is to filter out the high pitched signals that can be sometimes heard.

So, the filter is not needed on the usb connection. It would be needed on the phone cord of any phone attached to the same line.
