I have just moved my desktop from ADSL to a LAN network to allow me to surf wirelessly on my laptop. However, for some reason the internet now refuses to open certain pages. Is LAN slower than ADSL or is it still a result of the slow internet following last week's earthquake in Asia?

I am a complete no-brainer when it comes to computers.
The set up we have in our house at the moment is my sister has a very old mac with a dial-up internet connection.
I have recently bought a new laptop (MSOFT) and want to set up wireless internet access.
We only have 1 x phone line.
At the moment when we connect to the dial up it makes the phone line engaged.
I currently have a splitter in the socket which supplies phone & digital TV. This splitter has 1 free port so 1st question -
Can I plus the wireless router into this free port without causing any probs to telephone & TV?

2nd question - Hopefully I will be able to network my sisters Mac to my wireless connection as well (so this problem might not occur) but I have a feeling it might be too old.
If this is the case & my sister needs to keep her old dialup for her Mac can I have the wireless connection AND the dial-up going through the same phone line??

Please can someone help me as this is all WAY over my head!!

I know a lot of people who have wireless and are unhappy with it because they always lose connection. Is there anything that allows you to have connection everywhere, or something better than wireless???

Ok I have a new modem it is a SpeedStream 5360 Ethernet ADSL Modem from AT&T. the problem that i think it is, is that the ethernet light in the back of the computer is off, but the modem is on. As a matter of fact the modem doesn't work. I tried with my other modem that is a 4100 ADSL and the back light turns on, but with the 5360 doesn't, what would it be? (please help because I need to repair a computer asap)

I am connected through wireless and i have my library and my sisters(who is also connected by wireless) under "shared". Is there any way i can hack or something so i can take her music that is under shared and transfer it to my library?

I have DSL at home, which I use with a wireless router. My ISP is an independent, local DSL company - not one of the phone companies.

I'd like to connect to our computer at work, and our programmer told me I'll have to use Telnet, due to our firewall. In other words, I can't just type the IP address. I have to use the phone number.

I tried plugging my laptop into the phone jack with a phone cord, but HyperTerminal couldn't get a dial tone. The phone itself works just fine from that jack. What am I doing wrong?
